Solar energy project planned in three villages

Energy for cooking, lighting and water for irrigation to come from renewable sources

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: Every household in one village in each of the three regions of the State would get solar lighting, gobar gas and a solar photo-voltaic pumpset for running agricultural motors totally free of cost under the Non-Conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh's (NEDCAP) `Village energy security programme' pilot project.

However, the conditions for availing of these facilities are that the village should not have electricity connection and that it should not opt for a conventional power connection until 2012.

Work will commence in September and the programme will be launched in December.
