Sniffer dog leads to burglar

ELURU: A sniffer dog named Rocky helped the police solve a case of burglary within a few hours of the offence being committed at Lakkavaram in West Godavari district.

The house of a trader, Vandanapu Satyanarayana, was burgled last night and Rs 15,000, 23 sovereigns gold ornaments and one kg of silver articles, all worth Rs 1.2 lakhs, were stolen. The police pressed into service the sniffer dog from Vijayawada city and clues team from Eluru.

According to the Jangareddygudem DSP, Chaganti Rama Rao, the dog led the police to the house of an ex-convict, Durga Rao, of the same village. Durga Rao had dug a pit in the backyard of his house and kept the booty there, the DSP said.
