Singareni plea to YSR to expedite clearances

HYDERABAD, NOV. 29. The CMD, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), R.H. Khwaja, on Monday urged the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to use his good offices and expedite clearances with the Centre.

At a performance review, Dr. Reddy was told SCCL had accepted coal linkages for new power plants at Bhoopalapalli block where Genco proposed 2 X 500 MW capacity plants. However, with scope only for 2 X 250 MW plants, it was decided to take up the project acquiring the Tadicherla block, 16 km away.

Captive mining

As Tadicherla was listed for captive mining, the Centre was not permitting de-listing of blocks identified for captive mining, he was told.

Mr. Khwaja urged the Chief Minister to intervene and expedite clearances with the Centre so that the Tadicherla block I and II could be used and synchronised with commissioning schedules of Genco power stations.

He said SCCL would ground two more open case and one underground project in 2004-05 and that they had obtained four environmental clearances in the year, apart from preparing 32 feasibility reports in the past two and a half years.
