Seven hurt in lorry-tipper collision

HYDERABAD, JUNE 1. Seven persons were injured after a lorry and a tipper collided head-on near the HMT factory gate in Jeedimetla police station area on Tuesday.

As the lorry's diesel tank burst, sparks emanating from the collision ignited the fuel resulting in burns to a labourer, Shahbuddin (45), who was travelling by the lorry. An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Jeedimetla police station, Prabhakar, broke his ankle while rescuing Mr. Shahbuddin.

The mishap occurred on the Balanagar-Narsapur road when the tipper coming from Shapurnagar to Balanagar hit the lorry going from Borabanda to Khajipally.

The tipper's driver, Shankar, fled the spot. Its owners - Santosh and Rakesh - who sat in the cabin, escaped with minor injuries. The lorry driver, Munwar Khan, its owner, Syed Hasan, and a passenger, Ashok, sustained injuries.
