SCB polls: 8 held on charge of luring voters

HYDERABAD: The North Zone police on Saturday registered four criminal cases in connection with the Secunderabad Cantonment Board elections and arrested eight persons on charges of attempting to lure voters. Saris and liquor bottles were seized from the arrested persons, North Zone DCP Shikha Goel said.

On a tip-off, the Begumpet police raided the house of one Kishtaiah at Annanagar and seized 140 saris from his possession. He was reportedly planning to distribute the saris among women voters asking them to vote for Congress candidate from ward No. 2.

The Bolarum police arrested five persons who were allegedly distributing saris and liquor bottles to people in Adarshnagar asking them to support Congress candidate Jaya Prakash, contesting from ward No. 7. In another case, they arrested a person Sandeep and seized seven liquor bottles from his possession from Sadarbazar area. Sandeep was a supporter of Congress rebel candidate from ward No. 6

Vinod Reddy, a supporter of Telangana Rashtra Samiti candidate Manjula Reddy from ward No. 6, was arrested at Sadarbazar on charge of campaigning for her by distributing liquor.
