Saw mill owner gets one year RI for pilfering power

TIRUPATI, DEC. 6. A saw mill owner was today slapped a sentence of one year's RI for alleged power pilferage in his unit situated on the Tirupati-Renigunta road here. The First Additional District Sessions Judge, Chittoor, P.V. Subramanyam, tried the case on the basis of a chargesheet filed in February 2001 by the Vigilance and the APTS Police Station, Tirupati, and gave the ruling.

According to the Station House Officer, the pilferage was detected when the AE/DPE during his raid on the mill found its power meter allegedly tampered with, leading eventually to the levy of the penalty and the compounding fee for the offence.

The mill owner was remanded to judicial custody as he failed to pay to the department the penalty of Rs.4,27,839 and the compounding fee of Rs.52,000 levied on him.
