Ryots told not to disrupt bank work

ANANTAPUR, AUG. 1. The district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, has appealed to the farmers and farmers' associations not to obstruct the functioning of banks as the Government and bankers have been trying to help the farmers in need.

She explained that the State Government had already initiated disbursement of relief announced by the Reserve Bank and NABARD, apart from issuance of crop loans to all eligible farmers, rescheduling of old loans and raising the scale of finance. She urged the farmers and farmers' associations to observe restraint keeping in view the limitations of the bankers.

Review meetings at the revenue division-level and mandal-level would be held from August 3 to examine the progress.

The lead district manager, district and bank officials would participate in such meetings apart from the Collector. She said the farmers and farmers' associations were laying siege to banks, using filthy language against the bank staff and obstructing their functioning at some places.

Some banks had even submitted representations to her seeking security, explaining that functioning would become difficult in a charged atmosphere, she said.
