HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has welcomed the decision of the party high command to give ticket for Rajya Sabha elections to APCC president K. Keshava Rao and INTUC president G. Sanjiva Reddy.

Speaking to presspersons at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, he said: "It has been decades since the INTUC found representation in the Upper House and people are happy." Asked about Mr. Keshava Rao's selection, he quipped: "People are doubly happy."

On his reaction to the Advisor (Public Affairs) K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao losing out in the race, Dr. Reddy said: "Absolutely no problem. It is not at all a setback for us. We will use his services here."

Keshava Rao happy

Mr. Keshava Rao also expressed happiness at his selection and said it was normal for PCC presidents to be elected to the Upper House.

In response to a question whether he would accept a ministerial berth, he said while he was not thinking of becoming a Union Minister, he would not accept even if offered.

Mr. Rao added that he would discharge his responsibilities both as a Rajya Sabha member and that of PCC president to the best of his ability.

On Mr. Ramachandra Rao not finding a place in the list of nominees, he said it was quite possible the high command felt his services were required more in the State than at the Centre.
