ANANTAPUR: Counselling for transfer of secondary grade teachers witnessed noisy scenes once again here on Monday.

A teacher presently working in Kothacheruvu mandal was suspended for reportedly manhandling an attender and breaking the doors of a room in the counselling centre.

According to the officials of the School Education Department several teachers, including women, working in and around the urban areas for the last eight years or more picked up an argument with the counselling officials, demanding that they be placed first in the list of teachers ought to be transferred.

However, the officials explained them that it was not possible to place them first in the list as those in the categories of widows, suffering with chronic diseases and physically challenged would be placed first according to the rules in vogue. When this attempt failed the teachers demanded that the officials open the posts which were blocked.

But, the officials again explained them that a certain number of posts were blocked as per the guidelines of the Government so that they could be shown and filled whenever new teachers were recruited.

Husbands of teachers who had completed eight years in and around urban areas and male teachers working in such areas with the same seniority at one place tried to push themselves inside the counselling hall.

Going a step further, one Nagendra Prasad, working at a school in BC Colony at Kothacheruvu, kicked the doors open and allegedly manhandled an attender who had tried to stop him.

Later, the teacher also pushed aside the District Educational Officer, P. Ananda Murthy, who tried to pacify him.

The matter was immediately reported to the District Revenue Officer, M. Sudarshan Reddy, who in turn recommended action against the teacher.

Accordingly, the DEO suspended Nagendra Prasada and a complaint was also lodged with the police against his unruly behaviour at the counselling centre.

Those who were making noise to garner the posts in and around urban areas again were silenced once the action was taken against one teacher.

The counselling process progressed without any problem later on.
