Reward for honesty

VIJAYAWADA, OCT. 11. A housewife who forgot to collect her bag containing cash, cheques and clothes all valued at around Rs. 1.75 lakh in an auto, managed to get it back intact, thanks to the auto driver, V. Venkateswaralu.

According to the City Police Commissioner, Umesh Sharraf, G. Radhika, a resident of Maruthinagar, along with two of her relatives boarded Mr. Venkateswarlu's auto, bearing the number AP16x 7453 to go to a textile shop at Lenin Centre on Saturday.

However, after alighting, she forgot to collect the bag containing Rs. 8,000 in cash, Rs. 1.6 lakh in crossed cheques besides some expensive clothes, from the auto.

A few minutes after realising her folly, Ms. Radhika called up the Police Control Room for help.

In the meantime, Mr. Venkateswarlu, who noticed the bag in his vehicle tracked down Ms. Radhika at the textile shop and handed over the bag to her.

The City Police Commissioner appreciated the honesty of Mr. Venkateswarlu and announced a cash reward for him.
