Retired doctor charged with killing son, daughter-in-law

VIJAYAWADA, NOV. 29. The Gannavaram police on Monday arrested a 70-year-old retired District Medical Officer, T. Suryaprakash Reddy, on charges of murdering his son and daughter-in-law. Eight others including the Reddy's sister were also arrested for the double murder said to be a sequel to a property dispute.

The victims - T. Soul Reddy, (30), and his wife, Latha (27), were returning to their house at Gunadala on November 23 when they were waylaid at Gannavaram by four persons and hacked to death. The ACP of East Circle, P. Anand Rao, told reporters here on Monday that the murder was organised by Suryaprakash Reddy, as he had a long-standing property dispute with his three sons -- Soul Reddy, Vivek Reddy and Joshua Reddy.

Attack on father

The police said that about a year ago the three sons had attempted to kill Reddy owing to the property dispute. But he escaped with serious injuries was since then nursing vengeance against his sons, they claimed.

The Seven Town Police had registered a case of attempt to murder against the three sons then. The case is now pending trial.

Killers hired

However, to wreak vengeance on his sons, it was alleged that Reddy with the help of his sister, Suseelama, and nephew, Siva Reddy, hatched a plan to kill Soul Reddy. Accordingly the accused reportedly hired the services of a mercenary gang comprising -- N. Ramesh, O. Ganesh, E. Koteswara Rao and L. Rambabu -- to carry out the attack on November 23. The gang was allegedly offered Rs. 4 lakhs to execute the murder.

Three others -- D. Madhu, K. Kishore and Naryana -- who allegedly helped the gang in the preparation for the murder were also nabbed.

The Circle Inspector of East G.V.S Murthy and the Gannavarm sub inspector, M. Ratna Raju, made the arrests.

According to the police efforts were on to nab Siva Reddy and another person, Vuyuru Rambabu, said to be involved in the conspiracy.
