Rayadurg gets 1.5 cr. for rural works

ANANTAPUR: The Central Government has sanctioned Rs. 1.5 crores for Rayadurg Municipality under the Provision for Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) scheme.

According to the district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, the funds will be utilised for development of surrounding rural areas. Initially, 10 roads connecting the surrounding villages to Rayadurg will be developed under the new scheme. Proposals for the works have already been prepared.

Works related to education and health will also be taken up as part of the five-year scheme.


Meanwhile, the State Government has released Rs. 7.5 crores to the district for repairs and renovation of tanks and ponds. Of which, Rs. 3 crores will be given as cash and rice worth Rs. 4.5 crores. Works with an estimated cost of Rs. 10 crores will be taken up with the funds. The works are required to be completed by June-end. Tenders will be called for all works costing Rs. 2 lakhs or more.
