Railway station to have two more platforms

Rajahmundry railway station will have two more platforms in addition to the existing three.

This was announced by South Central Railway General Manager G.N. Asthana while speaking to media persons during his brief halt at the railway station here on Wednesday. “Apart from new platforms, the station will have an escalator and a lift which have already been sanctioned and works will begin soon.”

The multi-shopping complex, which was under construction, would be completed in next few months, Mr. Asthana said.

He said the burden on railways due to diesel price hike was to the tune of Rs.1500 crore and it was the government to take a decision on fare hike.

Train accident probe

Replying to a query, he said that the preliminary inquiry into the Tamil Nadu Express fire found that explosive material was carried in the train. “However, we are awaiting the final report,” he added.
