Railway line to be restored by month-end

NELLORE: Residents of Nellore have something to cheer about. Trains passing through Vijayawada - Chennai line will have smooth run from April 1 as construction of the new bridge between Alluru and Bitragunta would be completed by month-end.

According to Railway officials, track of about one kilometre, including two small bridges were washed away on October 28 due to flash floods, severely affecting train services on the Vijayawada - Chennai line.

One line was restored within three days while the bridge on the other line is being built and it would be commissioned by this month-end.

As of now, both up and down trains, particularly - Charminar, Narayanadri, Padmavati and Simhapuri express trains have been running behind the schedule every day for several months.

Once, the line is restored, things would come to normal state, the officials said on Saturday.
