Pseudo-naxal caught by villagers

ANANTAPUR: In a rare act of bravery, a pseudo-naxalite was caught by the people of Settur village in Kambadur mandal around midnight last night. A tapancha and a hunting sickle were also seized from his possession.

The Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, told reporters here today that the villagers of Settur, who were on a vigil at a temple, stopped three persons riding a motorcycle on way to Brahmasamudram. The villagers tried to catch them but two of them gave them the slip.

On enquiry, the person caught by the villagers told them that he was Hanumantharayudu of Kadirampalli in Rayadurg mandal. He said the two who escaped were Nagaraju, their group leader, of Itikampalli and one Reddy.

The SP stated that the group was extorting money from the well-off families in the area recently and Nagaraju had three cases of extortion registered against him. He complimented the villagers of Settur for their brave act.
