Collector asks bankers to review progress on loan disbursement

VISAKHAPATNAM: The district Collector, Praveen Prakash, urged the bankers to provide loans liberally up to Rs.315 crores to farmers during the kharif season.

Addressing a meeting of bankers and district officials on Wednesday, he said the farmers got busy with agricultural work in the district, thanks to the recent rains.

He asked the bankers to review their progress regarding loan disbursement in the last six months. In case they were lagging behind, they should fix monthly and weekly targets to achieve them, he suggested.

In this context, the Collector recalled that the self-help groups which were provided loans for milch cattle were repaying them regularly.

He asked the bankers to provide milch cattle for the 2,400 SHGs which repaid loans. Credit cards should be given to SHGs as well as farmers, he felt and advised the District Rrural Development Agency Project Director to provide mobile phones for SHGs.

Mr. Prakash also urged the bankers to provide loans to employees to buy motorcycles and to SC and ST students for pursuing higher studies.
