HYDERABAD: Mild tension prevailed outside the Central Power Distribution Company Limited (CPDCL) office at Singareni Bhavan, Red Hills on Monday after scores of agitating United Electricity Employees Union members were taken into custody by the police for laying siege to the office. They were demanding regularisation of services, minimum wages, PF and ESI benefits to the contract workers.

Around 10.30 a.m, hundreds of agitating workers gathered at the office and started raising slogans pressing for their demands. Large number of policemen were posted to avoid any untoward incident. Trouble began when the police used force to disperse the protestors. Following police action, some of them raised slogans disrupting traffic. Subsequently, the protestors were bundled into waiting police vans and taken away.
