Prison official rapped

HYDERABAD, DEC. 6. A two-member Bench of the High Court, comprising Justice G. Bikshapathi and Justice P. S. Narayana on Monday faulted Mohd. Munaiwar, Superintendent of the Cuddapah Central Prison, for delaying the release of two prisoners who were acquitted in a criminal case. The court found that because of the delayed release, the two persons, including Vadde Venkatesh, were detained illegally for 13 days.

The court was dealing with a contempt case against the Jail Superintendent when it was brought to the notice of the Court that in spite of being acquitted, the persons were not set at liberty. The contemnor defended himself stating inter alia that there was some discrepancy in the names and though 32 other persons were released, because of the discrepancy in the name of the two persons could not be discharged immediately.

The Bench, speaking through Mr. Justice Bikshapathi, pointed out that there was no wilful violation of the court order but the Jail Superintendent had failed to take prompt action.
