VISAKHAPATNAM: The prime accused in the schoolboy's kidnap case was arrested after the boy was released and Rs. 9 lakhs out of the Rs. 12 lakhs paid as ransom recovered.

``Gowru Suresh alias Rajesh alias Ramesh alias Rajakumar alias Ramu was involved in a kidnapping case at Nacharam in Hyderabad and in a pseudo-naxal case in the city last year,'' the Commissioner of Police, V.S.K. Kaumudi, told a media conference here on Wednesday.

Suresh was arrested in Nellore by the city police, who were also in search of four others, including driver of the car that was used for whisking away 14-year-old Anuraga Kaushik.

Kaushik was going to the bus stop from his home in Madhavadhara last Friday when some unknown persons pushed him into a car. They then asked his father, Kolli Venkata Basava Chandrasekhar, to pay Rs.25 lakhs as ransom for release of the boy. They also warned him against lodging a complaint with the police. Mr. Chandrasekhar, who runs a transport company named after his son, however, lodged a complaint with the police in the afternoon.

As there was threat to the life of Kaushik, he paid Rs.12 lakhs to the kidnappers without informing the police on Sunday. The boy was released and he returned home on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, the investigation officer, Ravi Varma, under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lakshmi Reddy, arrested Suresh, who was watching a movie in a theatre in Nellore. They searched his hotel room and recovered the cash.
