Political scenario hots up in Proddatur

Cuddapah Nov. 13. The political scenario in the BJP circles is hotting up in the Proddatur constituency, with district party leaders announcing the probable candidate for the segment and some leaders disputing the choice even as the propaganda of advancement of the Assembly elections has gained momentum.

The BJP district president, Narala Bali Reddy, the State Council member, K.V. Ramana Reddy, and some leaders announced at a press conference at Proddatur the candidature of the Proddatur BJP constituency convenor, Kovvuru Balachandra Reddy, for the Proddatur segment, where the BJP had considerable cadre.

They stated that the candidate was being announced to end speculation rife among the people on the seat.

The party was keen on contesting from Proddatur, Rajampet, Kodur and Lakkireddipalle segments and the probable candidates were ready, they asserted. Mr. Balachandra Reddy's choice was announced after formal discussions between some confidantes, in consultation with the BJP State Executive member and film actor, Naresh.

Meanwhile, the BJP State Doctors' Cell convenor, Y.V. Ramamuni Reddy, told a press conference at Proddatur today that the announcement of Mr. Balachandra Reddy even before the notification of elections revealed the political inexperience of some party leaders. It was contradictory to the conventional practice of State committee leaders holding discussions with aspirants and apprising the State leadership of the aspirants' strengths and shortcomings, he said.

Thereupon, the State leadership would shortlist the candidates and forward the names to the party's Parliamentary Board. Referring to the announcement that candidates were ready for four Assembly seats, he questioned why only Kovvuru Balachandra Reddy's name had to be announced in haste, but not those of others?

Dr. Ramamuni Reddy assured his support to strengthen the party and said he would strive for the victory of any candidate to be fielded by the State party high command.
