Police open fire into air, nab youth

HYDERABAD, MARCH 17. The police opened two rounds of fire into air when a youth allegedly tried to attack them with a dagger after being intercepted while fleeing in a stolen four-wheeler at Narayanaguda in the early hours of Thursday.

The arrested youth, Mukesh Kumar, 22, admitted to the police to have committed several offences, including four thefts, the Central Zone DCP, B. Srinivasulu, said here.

Two constables on patrolling, who spotted the youth speeding away in a van at Gandhinagar at 2.15 a.m., grew suspicious when the driver did not stop the vehicle even after a warning and alerted the main control room. A mobile party of Saifabad police came across the vehicle at Basheerbagh crossroads, but its driver managed to escape. Finally, the police could intercept the vehicle at Narayanaguda.

An autorickshaw driver, Kumar, told the police that he stole a VCD player after breaking into a house at SBI colony on Wednesday midnight and later lifted the van from the same locality.
