Plenary will set agenda for nation: Keshava

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: APCC president K. Keshava Rao on Sunday welcomed the delegates at the 82nd AICC plenary, saying that the message from the meeting should not only to set a direction but an agenda for the nation.

Dr. Rao said the plenary was more significant as the Congress had come to power at the Centre and in the State. The impressive growth rate of seven per cent GDP and maintaining it for over a year gave a new hope and confidence in the creative formulations and directions. The greatest challenge before the party was to ensure that the benefits of economic growth percolated to the lowest strata of society. He pointed out that in Andhra Pradesh, the party had romped home under the leadership of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ending nine years of "misrule." The APCC chief referred to the "Jalayagnam" programme to irrigate 65 lakh acres in the next five years.
