People happy: Congress

HYDERABAD, AUG. 21. In a spirited defence against the TDP charge of non-performance, the 100-day-old Congress Government on Saturday dismissed the criticism as one borne out of jealousy and claimed that people were "happy and fully satisfied."

Five Ministers -- Dharmana Prasada Rao, N. Raghuveera Reddy, Kanna Lakshminarayana, M. Mareppa and Mohammed Fareeduddin - addressed a press conference to counter the TDP attack.

Listing 46 achievements during the 100-day rule, the Ministers said it was the best that one could do.

TDP fears

They said the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, and other leaders were resorting to criticism as they feared that the Government might succeed where the TDP Government did not -- complete all the pending irrigation projects. This would be the end of the road for TDP, politically.

The Ministers said they had taken some bold decisions. They circulated a note containing 46 achievements, some realised and some "underway". The major achievements listed were going ahead at "jet speed" on pending projects, string of measures for farmers welfare including free power supply, waiver of arrears, six-month moratorium on loans, opening of power purchase agreements and talks with naxalites. Those mentioned as "in the process" included schemes meant for BCs, reduction of interest rate for DWCRA groups.
