PCB promoting ‘Green Ganesha’

August 22, 2014 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

In its bid to promote environment-friendly Ganesha idols, the Telangana Pollution Control Board will install clay Ganesha models across Telangana region. On the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi, the board will install idols of 10 ft to 12 ft in the four zones of GHMC by spending Rs. 9.5 lakh.

Further, the board is spending Rs. 8 lakh to install about 5 ft high idols in various towns and villages of the State.

“It has been estimated that about 60,000 litres of natural colours are required for the Ganesha idols placed in community prayers in the twin cities. As per current prices, it would cost Rs. 2 crore to manufacture these colours. Efforts will be made to meet this challenge in the coming years,” said Sanjay Kumar, member secretary, Telangana State Pollution Control Board while launching the campaign on Thursday.

The Board will also allot a separate budget for de-silting of tanks and removal of immersed Ganesha idols.
