Pastor arrested on murder charge

A day after the shocking incident of a minor being burnt to death came to light, the police arrested the main accused, Dasi Ajay Kumar (26), a local pastor at Nadendla village, on Thursday. They slapped cases under Sections 302 and 376 IPS and the accused was sent to judicial remand.

The police said that accused had confessed that he had lured the girl into a relationship. Though there was no evidence of rape, the police slapped case of molestation since the victim was a minor.

Narrating the sequence of events that led to the girl's murder, the police said that on Monday the both the accused and the victim spent the day together. The girl demanded the accused to marry her resulting in an altercation. In a fit of rage, Ajay hit the girl on the temple after which she fell unconscious.

Sensing trouble, the accused then doused her with kerosene and set fire.

In a bid to cover up the crime, he told neighbours that the girl had accidentally caught fire while she was making tea and hurriedly admitted the victim to a local hospital.

Neighbours, who smelt a rat, alerted the police, who took the accused into custody. Cases were also registered against the accused wife for tampering with the evidence.
