Over 90 per cent RTC buses off the road in Vijayawada region; revenue loss 1 cr.

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada region of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) suffered a loss of over Rs. 1 crore on the first two days of the indefinite strike of the employees' unions. This was because over 90 per cent of the buses in the region did not ply on Monday and Tuesday. Officials said that all employees, except depot managers and security staff, continued to participate in the strike.

The officials, who were presently available, were busy making alternative arrangements to run minimum services on every route.

There was hardly anybody to concentrate on whatever meagre collections that came on the first two days. One official said there was no time to keep a watch on this front. The region's usual revenue per day was Rs. 55 lakhs to Rs. 60 lakhs, but the collections in the last two days hit the rock bottom.

The revenue on Monday might be around Rs. 1 lakh and it would be a little more on Tuesday. With the skeletal services, it would not be possible to improve the revenues significantly during strike period, the official added.
