Officials to meet on canal extension

NELLORE: The Forest Minister and district In-charge, S. Vijayarama Raju, has said that a high- level meeting of engineering officials of the Irrigation Department will soon be held to find out technical feasibility of extension of north canal pertaining to the Somasila project.

In a whirlwind tour of the interior Kondapur and Udayagiri mandals in the district, Mr. Vijayarama Raju claimed that the Government had launched the Praja Patham programme to know the problems of people.

About drinking water problem at Veligandla, he assured villagers of supplying water within 45 days.

The Minister said there was a difference between the `Janmabhoomi' and the `Praja Patham', as the emphasis was more on core issues directly affecting people in the latter programme.

He also promised water supply to Marrigunta village.

Water works

The Minister said that that continuous supply of power would be made available for seven hours for agriculture.

The district Collector, B. Rajsekhar, said that water works costing Rs. 3 crores were undertaken to solve the issue at Marrigunta village.

Also, 18 villages in the surrounding areas would get protected water supply.

He appealed to people to register their names with the panchayat secretary with regard to the Food Assurance Scheme.

Efforts would be made to build a check-dam across Nallavagu area, he said.

The MLAs -- Magunta Parvatamma, A. Ramanarayana Reddy and M. Chandrasekhara Reddy and others accompanied the Minister.
