Nurses protest against assault on colleague

CUDDAPAH, MARCH 11. Nurses sported black badges and demonstrated before the Cuddapah Government Hospital on Friday in protest against yesterday's assault on a staff nurse, Sarojamma, by relatives of an accident victim.

The Government Staff Nurses Association secretary, T.L. Subbamma, said the lorry driver, Venkatarami Reddy, died due to grievous injuries.

Blaming the nurse for his death was atrocious, she said and demanded adequate protection to nurses from such attacks.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Paramedical Contract Workers Association staged a dharna seeking regularisation of paramedical workers and nurses.

They were appointed on merit and rule of reservation and being paid gross salary, HRA, DA and TA, but their services were yet to be regularised, the CITU district vice-president, D. Syam, said.

The association president, M. Prasad, said 10,000 employees in the State awaited regularisation and urged the Government to keep up its promise.
