BIJAPUR: Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin said here on Wednesday that the progress of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is short of expectations.

He was speaking after inaugurating a symposium on Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Shaikshanika Pragati organised by the Department of Public Instruction, Department of Information and Publicity, and J.S.S. College.

On the scheme, he said the Government spent Rs. 18 crores in the district last year but there has not been much progress. This year, a sum of Rs. 20 crores has been earmarked.

The assigned staf should understand that only their prompt involvement can make the scheme a success. Ningamma Betsur of State Women's University said factors such as poor economic condition, forced child labour and gender bias also contributed to poor progress.

College principal V.V. Malagi presided over the function. Assistant Director, Department of Information and Publicity, Veeranna Kammar welcomed the gathering.
