No government can take a decision against people’s wishes when it comes to bauxite mining, YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has declared.

“Whoever be the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy or N. Chandrabababu Naidu or even Jaganmohan Reddy can take up bauxite mining against the wishes of the tribal people,” he said addressing a massive gathering of tribals at a public meeting organised by his party here on Thursday.

He said Rajasekhar Reddy had proposed to take up bauxite mining but did not push for it after he realised that tribals were opposed to it. But Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, who opposed it when he was in Opposition, was now pushing for it, Mr. Jagan said.

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to the Governor that no grama sabha had supported bauxite mining but his white paper says that the Jerella gram panchayat had passed a resolution supporting mining. Mr. Naidu was conveniently twisting facts to suit his interests, the YSRC president said.

Paderu MLA Giddi Eswari reiterated her challenge to the Chief Minister to pit anyone against her in the constituency after she resigned.
