VISAKHAPATNAM: Bajaj Auto, the country's leading two-wheeler manufacturer, launched its automatic scooter, Wave, at Varun Bajaj here on Saturday.

The APSRTC Regional Manager, D. Satyanarayana, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that the two-wheeler would be very convenient for short distances, though RTC remained the cheapest mode of transport for long distances and for those below the poverty line.

The regional manager of Bajaj Auto, B.K. Senapathi, claimed that the 110 cc Wave at Rs. 32,700 was aggressively priced at Rs. 6,000 less than Honda Activa and Rs. 1,000 more than the 60 cc Scooty.

Wave, the on-geared two-wheeler, had already entered the market in Maharashtra and Hyderabad and was now in Visakhapatnam.

It would be launched soon in other major towns of the State with a target of 2,000 vehicles in the next three months in Andhra Pradesh.

"The vehicle ideally meets the requirements of today's modern, independent young woman in terms of comfort, style, and safety. It gives a mileage of 50 km per litre in any road conditions," he said. Varun Bajaj chief executive, A. Janaki Ram, welcomed the gathering.
