Naxalite groups merge

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Pratighatana and Janashakti (Ramachandran faction) groups of Naxalites have merged to overcome differences and split in revolutionary movement and also State repression.

The State secretaries of the two parties -- Prasad and Ram Mohan respectively -- in a joint statement here on Thursday said the merger had been discussed by their delegates. They arrived at the conclusion that the existence of the groups separately was a futile exercise in strengthening Communist revolutionary movement. Hereafter, the two organisations will work under the leadership of Ramachandran, it added.

Meanwhile, the Central committee of CPI-ML (New Democracy) in a separate statement condemned the banning of Maoists. The Central committee of CPI-ML (Liberation) also condemned the ban.

Film actress Vijayashanti said the ban would arm the police to crack down on innocent people.
