Mumbai blasts touch off protest

HYDERABAD Aug. 26. The anger against the car bomb blasts in Mumbai yesterday reverberated in Hyderabad with several organisations staging protest at various places in the city.

The city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took out a silent rally in the city condemning the bomb blasts. Senior party leaders Baddam Bal Reddy, former MLA, Prem Singh Rathod, MLA, Venkatramani, city unit chief, Subash Chanderji, Deputy Mayor along with the activists went in a rally from Tallagadda to Mehdipatnam X roads. Later, they burnt the effigy of the "ISI terrorist.''

Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a rasta roko near University College for Women, Koti, wherein hundreds of students participated throwing traffic out of gear. The Pakistan flag was burnt blaming the country for the spurt in terrorist activities in India. Katta Sudhakar, State secretary, ABVP, addressed the students.

Similar programmes were held by ABVP at Osmania University College for Arts and Social Sciences, P.G. College, Secunderabad, Kukatpally and Basheerbagh. A rally was also taken out in Malakpet. Traffic was affected at all the places.

Members of Hindu Vahini also staged protest at the statue of Veer Savarkar where they burnt the effigy of the "terrorist.''
