More staff for District Hospital

TENALI (GUNTUR DIST.): Three pharmacists and two clerks and an ambulance driver will be appointed on a contract basis to assist the existing staff to cope up with the growing number of patients at the District Hospital here.

At the Hospital Development Society meeting held here on Thursday, District Collector G. Jayalakshmi, who is also the chairperson of the society said that this decision was taken to serve the people better. The district hospital was attracting 700 outpatients on an average everyday, she said.

Decision was also taken to identify an alternate site for shifting the canteen. "Presently, the canteen is located close to the mortuary and not many people are visiting the canteen due to this," said a member of the society.

Hospital Superintendent M. Hanumantha Rao said that outsiders were requesting the hospital authorities to give the auditorium for private functions. Shaik Mohiuddin Batcha, a member said that it would not be in the best interests of the Hospital. Tenali MLA Nadendla Manohar said that it could be given only to hold workshops, exhibitions and seminars.

Extension of contracts of 11 employees, sanction of funds for purchasing an electric motor for water supply, beautification of the hospital premises and replacing pipes that were leaking were among the other decision taken at the meeting. The members also complained about lack of proper approach road and lighting. K. Lalitha, a member said that there was a shortage of rabies vaccination in the hospital and many poor people were affected.
