Minister for more agro-based industries

NIZAMABAD, AUG. 21. The Minister for Transport, S. Santosh Reddy, has appealed to the entrepreneurs to establish agri-processing industries in the State since there were ample resources and the State Government was willing to back them.

Addressing a seminar on "Agri-processing industries'' organised by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) and the Nizamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Saturday, he said industry in the State stagnated due to policies adopted by the previous Government.

Profits abound

The FAPCCI president, Omprakash Goenka, observed that the district had an agro-based economy and added that if agri processing industries were established, they would fetch good profits.

He advised the industrialists to set up rice and para boiled mills since paddy was cultivated in a large scale in the district.

Awards presented

On the occasion, the NCCI announced awards to nine entrepreneurs. The best entrepreneur of the district was Santosh Somani and the best woman entrepreneur, Amruthalatha. Pradeep J. Bhimani (best all round performance in industrial activity), Rajendra (best commercial trading activity), Nikhith Chedda (best new product innovation and marketing effort of the year), Bharat Kumar (best self-sustenance effort by a handicapped person of the year) were the other winners.

G. Srinivasa Reddy (highest income tax payer of the year in the district), Surya Automobiles (highest commercial tax payer) and Gayatri Sugars Limited (highest excise duty payer of the year), too were given awards.

The Nizamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Rajiv Puri, presided over the meeting. The NCCI vice-president, Dayananda Gupta, and a number of industrialists and traders attended.
