Minister asks panchayats to gear up for water crisis

Wants villages to bear 50 p.c. funds for fixing water meters

Rajahmundry: Minister for Roads and Buildings J. Ramamohanarao has asked all village panchayats to gear up to face drinking water crisis during summer.

Inaugurating electric sub-station, constructed at a cost of Rs. 2 crores at Srikrishnapatnam village in Rajanagaram mandal on Saturday, he said that village panchayats should bear 50 per cent funds and another 50 per cent will be released from MLA funds for fixing drinking water meters in villages.

He said that villages in Rajanagaram mandal are having good future and he asked the farmers not to sell their lands in this area. Mr. Rammohanarao said that erection of a number of sub-stations in this mandal has settled low-voltage problem and the APTransco is planning to erect another sub-station in Palla Kadiam village in a few months. He said the free power scheme of the State Government has given relief to lakhs of poor farmers in the State.

Meanwhile, the Minister distributed cheques to 71 beneficiaries worth Rs. 3.55 lakhs in Rajanagaram mandal. B. Trimurthulu, MPP, K. Satyavati, ZPTC, and others participated.
