Mini buses for rural passengers

Special Correspondent

Srikakulam: There was a proposal to introduce mini buses for commuters, especially in the rural areas, and also to shift from diesel to gas fuel, according to the Chairman (Vizianagaram Zone) and Director of APSRTC, Majji Narayana Rao. These proposals were discussed at the board meeting and steps in that direction were expected soon, Mr.Narayana Rao added.

Speaking to newsmen at the RM's office here on Thursday, Mr. Rao alleged that RTC suffered cumulative losses to the tune of Rs.1450 crores due to mismanagement by the TDP regime. He said in the Srikakulam region the occupancy rate had gone up from 59 to 62 percent resulting in the revenue going up from Rs.36.58 crore to 37.59 crore. The main reason for the loss, according to Mr. Rao, was the plying of about 1400 illicit vehicles. He said that a plan was chalked out to curb this. RTC officials along with officials of Transport and Police Departments would check plying of unauthorised vehicles.
