Match-making convention gets under way

ADILABAD, AUG. 21. A two-day `var-vadhu parichay' sammelan organised by the Shri Agrasen Samiti Adilabad got under way here on Saturday at the Marwadi Panchayat Bhavan. About 500 eligible bachelors would get introduced to other members of the community with matrimony in view.

Speaking at the function the Adilabad MLA, C. Ramchander Reddy, expressed concern over the dwindling number of females compared to that of males. He said at present the female population was less than that of males by 17 per cent. Praising the efforts of the Marwadi Agrawal community in organising the sammelan, the MLA said a message to increase the number of girls in society should reach people through such sammelans. The president of Akhil Bharatiya Agrawal Samaj, Pradeep Mittal, who was chief guest at the function also expressed deep concern over female foeticide. He said the ratio of females to males should go up.
