Man held on charge of rape bid

Duvvada police arrested a 35-year-old man, who allegedly attempted to rape a minor girl here on Tuesday in the city.

According to the police the accused was identified as Balireddy Nagendra Kumar, travel agent, residing at JNNURM blocks near Mangalapalem area under Duvvada police station limits.

The victim (14-year-old-girl) also resides in JNNURM building in the same block. As her father had passed away about seven months ago, she was staying along with her mother.

On Tuesday, as her mother went to collect the pension, Nagendra Kumar reportedly took advantage of the minor being alone, entered the house and tried to rape the girl.

When the girl screamed, neighbours rushed to her rescue and nabbed the accused. They beat him up before handing him over to the Duvvada police.

Later, the victim’s mother lodged a complaint against Nagendra and Duvvada police registered a case under POCSO Act, Nirbhaya Act and arrested the accused.
