Government gave suitable compensation, he says

GUNTUR: Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana charged the Telugu Desam Party with inciting the project evacuees against the State Government.

The Minister said that he had successfully fought for payment of adequate compensation to the evacuees. The Government gave suitable compensation to villagers holding irrigation lands, endowment lands and assigned lands, he told reporters here on Wednesday.

Launching a tirade against the TDP, he countered the TDP allegations over the intent of the State Government in completing the project. “Did any TDP leader dare to attend the public hearing held at Bellamkonda? I along with my party men risked our lives and attended the meet in 2005, in spite of Naxal threat.” he shot off a poser to the TDP leaders.

Several Congress leaders were forced to go underground and some have lost their properties in the Naxal violence, he said.

On the delay in the construction of the project, he alleged that the TDP had manipulated the process of e-procurement and bagged the contract.

He said that the contractor was a TDP sympathiser.

Stating that the present government spent close to Rs.30,000 crore on irrigation projects during the last three years, he said that the previous government had not spent even Rs.10 lakh.

When a delegation of farmers led by former Member of Parliament, Y. Sivaji called on Chandrababu Naidu, the latter rebuked the farmers and said that he could not risk facing the wrath of Telangana people, he said.
