‘Pulikanti’ passes away

TIRUPATI: Pulikanti Krishna Reddy (76), a well-known figure in the Telugu literary world in Andhra Pradesh passed away here today. Mr. Reddy, popularly known by his surname ‘Pulikanti’, was a prolific writer, playwright, commentator and columnist, was admitted in the TTD’s super specialities hospital--SVIMS a week ago after he developed serious lung ailment.

Formerly a journalist and secretary of the Tirupati Journalists Association in the seventies, Pulikanti played a sterling role in the promotion of Telugu plays and short stories through the ‘Pulikanti Sahithi Samithi’ which he founded a decade ago.

He also earned a pet name for himself in the literary world as ‘Rayalaseema Sinnodu’ and won the accolades of all especially through his serial, ‘Nalagu Kalla Mandapam’. Bhuman, director of the TTD’s SVETA, who was a close associate of Reddy, said the demise of Pulikanti was an irreparable loss to the literary world. The district secretary of the CPI-M, K. Murali and other literary lovers also condoled his death.
