‘People have not witnessed any change in their living standards’

WARANGAL: Thousands of people under the aegis of CPI and CPI (M) staged a dharna at the district collectorate here on Thursday demanding solution to the problems faced by the rural and urban poor in the State.

The parties sat on a two-day dharna in response to the call give by the State committees demanding development of infrastructure in municipal limits, basic amenities for urban poor and employment opportunities for the unemployed youth.

Promises not kept

Addressing the huge gathering, the Left parties’ leaders accused the State government of failing to keep many of its promises. Listing out the problems of the common man, they said the poor continued to be deprived of houses and employment and the people were burdened by the ever increasing prices of essential commodities.

The State government was spending huge sums on advertisements and boasting its achievements, while the people failed to witness any change in the condition of their lives. The Congress leaders were celebrating Indiramma Sambaralu, but the genuine beneficiaries failed to get any help.

In the urban areas, the people still faced shortage of drinking water, lack of drainage system and housing.

The leaders of Left parties vowed to intensify their agitation if the government failed to heed their demands immediately.
