‘Congress did not keep poll promises’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Speakers at a meeting of Girijana Sangham on Sunday alleged that the Congress government in the State had failed to keep its promises made to tribals during elections this year.

Sangham president of the G. Dharma Naik, general secretary R. Sriram Naik, CPI (M) Rajya Sabha member P. Madhu, former MP M. Babu Rao and others said that the ruling party had promised establishing a separate Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) for tribals living in the plains and making all Lambadi or Sugali thandas as gram panchayats among others.

There had been no efforts in that direction so far, they said.

Forest Act was not being implemented properly and funds meant for tribal welfare were being diverted for other programmes, they alleged.

They demanded the government to fill backlog vacancies of tribals, sanction scholarships and fee reimbursement.
