HYDERABAD: ‘Bombay Saleem’, allegedly involved in a spate of offences ranging from murders to robberies, extortions to kidnaps in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, was nabbed by Humayunnagar police.

The arrested man, whose original name is Mohammad Khaleemulla, was allegedly involved in five murders including the killing of his associate at Hayathngar here two years ago. One of his associates Mohd. Khan was also held.

Jewellery

Stolen gold jewellery, silver articles and electronic goods, all worth over Rs. 3.5 lakh and two hunting sickles were recovered from them, the West Zone DCP, Ravi Varma, told a press conference.

Saleem (28) used to work as ‘coolie’ at Bangalore railway station. Police said he took to crime as the meagre sums he earned were not enough to maintain the luxurious life style he wanted.

He used to snatch anything on moving trains and jump out. With the Bangalore police arresting him several times and keeping tab on his movements, he shifted to Sholapur of Maharashtra, formed a gang, burgled houses and committed robberies.

Special teams

As the local police there formed special teams to nab him, he returned to Bangalore and allegedly murdered four persons of his rival gangs. To avoid the Bangalore police, he came to Hyderabad three years ago and allegedly started burgling houses and shops.

With a couple of his associates, he used to wait at bus stops posing like an autorickshaw driver, pick up passengers and extort money from them at knifepoint after halting at secluded places.

Mr. Varma said that Saleem lured his associate, Ghouse, who once attacked him having joined hands with the rival gang, to Hyderabad in 2006 offering a job and killed him by slitting his throat at Hayathnagar.
