‘Abducted printing press owner was tortured’

KARIMNAGAR: The Karimnagar police have arrested five members of a nine-member gang, who had abducted a businessman of Hyderabad on Friday, and handed them over to the Marredpally police.

Disclosing this to newsmen on Monday night, Superintendent of Police Y Gangadhar said that the main accused, Sairam (65) of Ramadugu mandal, Gollapalli Jitender and Satish of Velgatoor mandal, Rajesham of Pegadapalli mandal and Vijay Mruthyunjay of Jagtial were arrested by the special police parties and rescued the businessman U Nageshwara Rao from the hillocks of Ryalapalli village in Gangadhara mandal on Sunday night.

Four others – G. Prasad, Srinivas, Kanakaiah and Anjaiah have escaped from the spot. The SP said that the businessman thanked the police for rescuing him from the clutches of abductors and shook hands with the police. When they were returning, the businessman collapsed and died.

The body was sent to Hyderabad after post mortem in Karimnagar. The deceased suffered some injuries on the spleen and kidney as the abductors had tortured the victim severely by beating him with sticks and causing burn injuries on his body with cigarettes and match sticks. The victim was also a blood pressure patient and since the last two days he was not having his medicines and is suspected to have died of cardiac arrest.

Hyderabad Staff Reporter adds: The North Zone DCP in Hyderabad, N. Shiva Prasad, said they would grill the accused to find out if any persons from Mumbai were involved in the kidnap of Rao. Based on the findings of the autopsy report, the sections of law would be altered in the case. While the Karimnagar police registered a case of suspicious death under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code , the Marredpally earlier booked a kidnap case.
