Lok Satta clarifies on its support to GM crops

The Lok Satta Party has maintained that its stance favouring genetically modified (GM) crops is in consonance with Article 43 of the Constitution which mandates that the State shall endeavour to ensure a decent standard of life to those engaged in agriculture.

State party president Katari Srinivasa Rao said the Election Commission had asked them to explain its pledge to support GM crops when the Supreme Court was seized of a petition on GM crops filed by its national president Jayaprakash Narayan.

He said the party unequivocally decided in favour of GM crops to ensure higher incomes to farmers and nutritious food to all.
