HYDERABAD: Congress Working Committee member G. Venkataswamy has said that the episode involving irregularities committed by Fisheries Department executive engineer V. Suryanarayana was sure to create a dent in the party and government’s image.

In an informal chat with reporters here on Tuesday, he felt that the issue may impact the party’s prospects in the next elections. There was no opposition to the party and the government from the people, but there was a surge in the ‘anti-Congress feelings among the people’ ever since the issue came to light.

‘Wait for report’

Mr. Venkataswamy said he wanted to give some suggestions to counter the criticism, but the government had ordered a judicial probe before he could react. “Let the judicial inquiry submit its report,” he said when asked to elaborate about the suggestions he proposed to make.

Replying to queries, he said the Congress was set to put up an impressive show in Telangana irrespective of whether the party’s leadership announces a decision on the issue of statehood for the region. On the talk about the possible alliance with the TRS, he said the issue was yet to figure in the CWC meetings.
