Kurnool Dairy to launch mineral water

KURNOOL, FEB. 26. Kurnool Dairy, the public sector milk producers cooperative union, will diversify into mineral water production and sale shortly.

The dairy has installed a unit on its campus here at a cost of Rs. 20 lakhs. The machinery alone is likely to cost Rs. 10 lakhs. The existing infrastructure like buildings and borewell will come in handy for the dairy to set up the new plant. The dairy planned to bottle in 20 litre bulk tins, one litre bottles and 250 ml pouches. The plant has capacity to produce 2,000 litres per hour. The product will be sold in the market as "Vijaya mineral water''.

Similarly, the dairy has plans to start sale of curd in urban areas.

Meanwhile, the turnover of the Union this year is likely to cross Rs. 44 crores. The Managing Director, P. Bhushanna, has said the milk procurement increased by 10 per cent this year. As of now, the procurement touched 1.04 lakh litres. The dairy with its main plants at Nandyal and Kurnool was able to sell 40,000 litres locally and export 64,000 litres to Hyderabad and Goa.

The Kurnool District Milk Producers Mutually Aided Cooperative Union Ltd has established a sound market and procurement system. Kurnool Dairy is considered one among the few profit-making public sector dairies in the State. Nandyal emerged as the major milk procurement zone while sales points were spread to other States also. The Kurnool Diary could foray into neighbouring Cuddapah, Anantapur and Mahabubnagar districts where dairy activity came to halt.
