Kannada activists stage protest

RAICHUR: Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike district unit took out a procession here on Monday in protest against the arrest of members of the vedike's State unit in Bangalore in connection with the attack on Belgaum Mayor Vijay P. More.

About 100 activists led by K. Narayana, president of the vedike's district unit, went in a procession from Karnataka Sangha and reached the Deputy Commissioner's office after passing through the main thoroughfares in the city.


They staged a dharna demanding that the Government release the arrested members of the vedike and withdraw the suspension orders issued against the police personnel who were on duty at the time when the vedike workers gheraoed Mr. More.


They submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Tushar Girinath demanding that the Government initiate action to supersede the Belgaum City Corporation council for passing a resolution against the interest of the State.

The vedike's district unit office-bearers, including Venugopal, Basavaraj Umbi, Nagaraj Naik, Kamalakar Sidhe, and D.A. Mahaboob, were present.
