Junior doctors' stir continues

HYDERABAD, JULY 24. The indefinite hunger strike by the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors and House Surgeons Associations has entered its third day, with members burning the effigy of the Health Secretary, Bhale Rao, in front of the Osmania Medical College here on Saturday.

The associations were demanding the withdrawal of Government Orders that allow private medical colleges to admit students without taking into account their ranking in the engineering and medical common entrance test.

`Give preference

to rank-holders'

"The Supreme Court judgment states that private medical colleges can admit students on the basis of merit and through a common entrance test. By allowing managements to admit students outside the EAMCET ambit in the `C' category, the Government is denying seats to meritorious candidates - 410 of them in the medical stream and 350 in the dental stream," the president of the House Surgeons Association, Rajasekhar Reddy, said.
